Galapagos
The Galapagos, the islands of the turtles, were officially discovered in 1535.
From the discovery of these islands until the first years of the '700 the pirates used them as a shelter and base for their enterprise towards the spanish colonial ports. In the later years rare exploration missions took place, until the middle ages of the '800 when, Charles Darwin, on board of the "Beagle" stopped for quite a long time in the islands to observe and study particular and unique species that permitted that the archipelago could be defined as "the laboratory of evolution of species".
Subsequently to the realization of this reportage, an ecological disaster has seriously mined the ecosystem of the islands and of their inhabitants; this situation, like in other cases, rapresents the price to pay for progress.
